DVG went to Strategicon here in Los Angeles, California. It was a lot of fun, and we got to meet plenty of new and old friends there. I ran some pretty fun game demos with Cards of Cthulhu, Rise of the Zombies, Down in Flames: Aces High, and Kill Shot. The demo team and I can’t wait for May, where we’ll be going to GAME-X, and demoing some of our new games that are coming in hot from the printer! Look for other DVG news, as we have a big announcement coming up!</span>Dan Verssenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04534313506940156036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4114922051178211136.post-54255766130351850142014-11-22T16:33:00.000-08:002014-11-22T16:33:48.588-08:00Insider #12<div class="MsoNormal">

The Warfighter Footlocker is absolutely huge! It is big enough to hold all of the cards from Expansion #1-#8, and still have 2/3 to fill with future expansions. The Footlocker is double layered, so you can put your mounted map and Rulebook in without messing up your cards.</div>

After much deliberation, we've decided to add in a 1945
Campaign to Tiger where you're playing in Germany, defending against the USA. We wanted
there to be more than one campaign where you could use the late war units. It's
been difficult to balance as our original concept had highly ranking
commanders, and a huge starting SO bonus, but the negative was unbalanced, so
we did some research. Turns out, by 1945, a lot of the experienced commanders
had been captured or killed, so you actually start with a mix of low ranking as
well as experienced commanders. Also, at this point in the war, Germany knew it
was losing, and that was putting extra stress on their commanders to win each
battle. Therefore, the Situation Card "Eyes of the Reich" is attached
to every battle. The "Eyes of the Reich" card says that every time you fire and miss, the commander gains a stress. Well
now, for every single battle of the entire campaign, every time you fire and
miss, the commander gains a stress. This completely changes my game play, as I
can't take "maybe" shots anymore. I have to be aggressive, wait for
the enemy to move out of cover, or risk my commander being shaken or unfit for
the next week. I've only play tested it a few times, but like all of the other
campaigns, this has its own flavor and feels unique.</div>

<i><span style="background: rgb(245, 245, 255); font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;">Second mission - covert strike against drug

<br />
This one looked hopeless because once you activate the location all the enemies
screen the objective but you<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><b>must</b><span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>destroy the objective in one turn or
it escapes.<br />
<br />
I took a chance and stayed one location back from the objective as I activated
it. This worked out because two of the defenders were hired muscle and ambushed
us at my current location. This kept them from screening the target and allowed
me to push on to the objective with less resistance in the way.<br />
<br />
I called in a mortar strike that wiped out the few smugglers screening the
plane, then charged forward and tossed a grenade at the plane as the aircrew
were pulling away the chocks. The grenade fragments failed to do any serious
damage and the target started to move towards the makeshift jungle runway. I
ran alongside pumping the plane full of holes with my automatic shotgun but it
began to pick up speed and raced away. My squad mate dropped to a knee and fired
4 controlled bursts. The aircraft lurched off the ground and then veered off to
the left slamming into the jungle in a ball of flames.<br />
<br />
With the hired muscle still shouting curses and firing wildly after us we made
our way to the exfiltration point.</span></i><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
<br />
<i><span style="background: #F5F5FF;">...</span><br />
<br />
<span style="background: #F5F5FF;">This
was very close. The extra attacks from<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><b>whiskey tango foxtrot</b><span class="apple-converted-space"> and<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span></span><b>overwatch</b><span class="apple-converted-space"> combined with the attack bonus from<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span></span><b>combined

challenge was in getting out all these cards plus the mortar and still having
enough cards to pay the mortars discard cost! I played overwatch the turn
before and payed xp to retain it. I started the final turn with 6 cards in my
hand and then used my hydration pack to draw the last card I needed.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="background: #F5F5FF;">I
really thought I was set after seeing how effective the mortar strike had been
but when the grenade failed I thought it was over. Very exciting and close game!</span></i></span></div>

German Tiger Tank was more than a match for a single American Sherman tank. The
Tiger's had better armor and a bigger punch, in comparison the American's had
more Sherman's available. Going into the movie, I had just completed a Tiger

Tiger's Campaigns have been flying by, and besides minor
edits, everything has been going smoothly. Every game has a different
"final cycle". The final cycle is when the game is 90% done, but
there are a few last edits that need hammering out. With Tiger, the problem is
balancing out the shortest and longest Campaign with the biggest and smallest
Objective card. A problem we had last week, was that our longest Objective card
"Offensive" worked well with "Poland 1939" but was
extremely easy with "U.S. 1944". Is it that "U.S. 1944" is
too easy? Was it random factors due to lopsided die rolls, and random card
draws? Finding the balance, and cutting out the randomness is one of the most
difficult jobs of being a game developer.</div>

Things are looking up! We just finished up the first half of
the pack out, and will be finishing up the second half tomorrow! I can't wait
for everyone to finally getting their Warfighters and Counter Trays. In other
news, Tiger Leader's Commanders skills changed a bit. The "Medic"
skill could be used on infantry cards to fix a Casualty, or fix any Commander
from wounded to healed. They can also now alleviate 2 stresses post mission. In
order to balance it out, some commanders now have the "Mechanic"
skill. This allows them to either fix a single damage counter on a vehicle, or
pay the "Large" SO cost on the bigger tanks. We still have Marksman,
Spotter, Cautious, Overdrive, Aggressive, Close Combat, and Tactic skills placed
on the different Commanders.</div>

Finally having this pack out is a relief. After all of this
anticipation, finally seeing the pallets being unloaded into our warehouse
feels great! We spent hours putting Warfighter after Warfighter into boxes with
every combination of bonus packs and extra dice. Tiger is changing, but I feel
for the better, as having commanders with combat as well as non combat skills is
necessary. The diversity gives me more options for what I need at any given
time. It also means that when I'm a few weeks in, and my commanders are all
stressed out, I can buy a new unit and give him a medic commander. He'll be
pouring the coffee for my shaken and unfit guys, bringing them back to the
fight. </div>

After an uncountable number of hours watching Kevin play test Tiger, we're testing out a new Unit trait called: Large. Having a vehicle with the Large trait means that you need to pay 1 SO for every battle you want to send this vehicle in per week. To compensate, the SO cost of every vehicle with the trait Large was reduced by 4. We'll see how this goes, but I'm hoping that it adds some more historical flavor to Tiger. This simulates the extra supplies, fuel, and maintenance issues suffered by the heavy vehicles like the Tiger and Panther.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

Warfighter, its Expansions, and the Deep Dish Counter Trays will be here on Monday! This means that we will have them shipped out, and you will start receiving them shortly. We have no idea why the Port took so long, but we will have them soon!</div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
Holly:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
People ask me why I would bother to write a rulebook before I knew the entire game was finished. It sounds perfectly reasonable to wait. It would save time and LOTS of effort if I just sat back and waited for the game to be done. Well, there are two main reasons I write, and re-write for the entire duration of a game's design.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
First, it takes weeks to write a rulebook. It's not just the rules, it's the examples, the graphics, and especially the example of play. Every concept must be covered, clearly and simply. If I waited for the game to be done before I started, it would delay the printing by weeks.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Secondly, it IS more efficient. "How can that be?", you might ask. "You need to change the whole rulebook every time a new rule, concept, counter, card, or system is added."</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Trust me, it's more efficient. Here's why…</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Writing a rulebook is like telling a story. When you have retold the story a hundred times, it is easy to accidentally leave parts out.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
When I write a rulebook, every detail matters. It's not enough to tell players to roll the dice. I must remember to mention it is a ten sided die they are rolling. If I write while the game is being created, I have a much better chance of typing in all the rules, because they are all NEW to me. As soon as the game changes from a 10-sided die to a 6-sided die, I add it into the rulebook. This keeps me from forgetting a rule or letting the rules run together. Imagine how terrible it would be to know a rule, but to forget to write it.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
A rulebook is usually the only conversation with the design team a new player will ever get. It has to be great. It has to be clear. It has to make the game feel understandable, and fun. The best way to do that is to make sure nothing is missed, and the best way to make sure nothing is missed is to keep updating throughout the design.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Kevin:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Having this new Large trait really mixes up how I'm going to play. I used to start off by purchasing a lot of cheap units as their cost was half to a third that of a King Tiger or Jagdpanther. I typically purchased Panzer 35's or Panzer IV's for 8 SO. As the best unit in the game, the King Tiger costs 17. Now that it costs 13, I can either buy a Panzer IV and a halftrack with the Transport ability, or pay an SO cost every week, but have a high firepower, heavily armored beast of a tank. This makes these units amazing in short games, as I technically get the -4 SO cost reduction, but only having the tank in operation for 3 weeks, means by the end of the campaign, I've saved 1 SO. However, having a late war tank is a necessity, as my weaker tanks will be blown up through continuous fire from the Allies.</div>

I'm happy that Tiger Leader's wrapping up and I'll be
setting Kevin on Israeli Air force Leader when we've sent this out. The Tiger Leader
Kickstarter will also be coming up soon, and I'm hoping for some fun stretch
goals with metal counters, and miniatures for the units! In other news, we're
in contact with the molding company, and things are looking good.</div>

Besides minor number adjustments, Tiger is looking to be all
set and done! I've played a few campaigns now, and they've all been running
smoothly, I'm looking forward to seeing this go off to the printer soon! Other
than Tiger, some Modern Land Battles play testing, and Dan is showing me how to
write a rule book, which is a lot more difficult than I would have thought.
Always writing in active voice, and having each and every sentence say exactly
one idea is a challenge, but I enjoy learning this! <span style="font-family: Wingdings; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-char-type: symbol; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings;">J</span> Bad news on Warfighter and Counter-Trays

Well, it's been an exciting couple of days. I heroically
handed over the Tiger rules for proofing with a smile on my face and a sense of
accomplishment in my heart. The reactions from Dan and Kevin were a combination
of nervous throat clearing and side-ways glances. Turns out, SEVERAL parts of
the game changed in the last few days. For example, the information on the
Campaign cards and the information on the Objective cards (which, last week
were called Situation cards) completely changed around.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Do you want to choose Commanders for your Campaign? Well you
can't! Because everything I wrote about doing that is different. No problem,
I'll just hunker down and start re-typing.</div>

Then, tonight, Dan and I sat down for a fun game of Modern
Land Battles. The game is just about done. The rulebook was complete a week
ago, with a few finishing touches going in here and there.</div>

Then, during the game, Dan stopped playing and stared at the
table for a few seconds. I've seen that look before. It usually comes after a
game has been declared "just about done".</div>

His head tilted a bit to the left…then a bit to the right.
Finally, he said…"huh". Then, "hmmm". Then he picked up a
Terrain card and looked at it for a few seconds, and put it back down.</div>

"What if we change the Terrain cards to do *this*?"</div>

We discussed it for a while, moved cards around, changed the

We played the game with the new ideas and…Dang It! It was a

Dan: I got a call from the shipping center, and the port is busy, but we may get our Warfighters and Counter-Trays early! Possibly any day now, and then a huge Pack-Out, and hopefully you will all get your games within the next week or so! In other news, Tiger is going well, and I feel like it's wrapping up. The movement system is down, our new Objective cards are working and throwing in a little flavor each game, it's all working, and I'm glad that the time we've put in is paying off.<br />
<br />
Kevin: I've been playing Tiger for a few hours every night, and doing some emails/pack outs of orders. I'm excited for when we get our Warfighters and Counter-Trays though, because that will be a long night, but at the end of it, we'll have a huge amount of boxes ready to ship out. I'll post a picture or two of us receiving the games, and everyone packing them out also, so you can see what it looks like. Tiger being close to finishing will be nice, as we can send it to the printer, and hopefully have Israeli Air force done before we have Tiger back.<br />
<br />
Holly:<br />
We had a great time playing Modern Land Battles last night. For some reason, we fell into LOL Cat speech.<br />
"I can haz missiles!"<br />
I put my hand up… - "Denied."<br />
"All your artilleries belongs to us!"<br />
<br />
It sounds ridiculous, but we were having a great time.<br />
<br />
The rulebook is just about finished. I'm putting in the new maneuvering cards now.<br />
<br />
In other news, the Rise of the Zombies tutorial is finished and ready for upload.<br />
I am working on the Warfighter tutorial now. It should be up in about a week. Of course, the Warfighter pack-out will jump to the front of the project list, but I can mix in lots of tutorial work.<br />
<br />
I also plan to link the tutorials to the website, so you can see the game, and see the link to the tutorial.<br />
It would be great to get feedback on the tutorials. I would like to make one for each game and I am only on game number 4. If there are changes, problems, or a better way to do something, now is the time to get it right. I'm open to most changes, except for live action filming. If a camera is ever near me, I choke.<br />

I've been play testing Tiger Leader, and made a huge breakthrough
with the placement of your starting Special Operation points from the Campaign
Card to the Objective Card. We also changed "Situation" to
"Objective" as it sounded better. I created the final art for the
Headquarters Sheet and updated it with all of the information a player will
need for quick access. Finally, I finished up some of the emails that have come

I sent away some pack outs and edited the rulebook for Tiger
that Holly made. We typically go through 20-40 rulebooks until it's finalized.
While play testing Tiger, the enemy Operational Movement was always a bit
clunky, and we came up with a new concept! For longtime fans, the enemy
Operational Movement system is similar to Thunderbolt Apache Leader. However,
in that game, you have airplanes and helicopters. Here, you have Tanks and
Infantry Squads. We used to say that you could move any of your units anywhere
on the battlefield, but that felt weird that some Rifle Squad could run some 70
miles and jump into combat. Then, we said whatever each unit's Tactical
movement is, is where they can move, but then Artillery could never participate
except for battles in the Frontline. Now however, we figured out a system that
for the last few campaigns has worked well. Attacking enemy Battalions in the
Frontline, German Transit, and German Staging is free. For every enemy
Battalion you attack in the Transit, it costs you 1 SO (Special Option Point),
Rear, 2 SO, and Breakthrough 3 SO. This allows you to move and jump into combat
with any enemy Battalion in your area of operation. These SO points represent
the fuel, food, and resources it would take to attack deeper behind enemy
lines.</div>

Hey, I've been hard at work writing up the rulebook for
Tiger and incorporating all of the edits that Kev and Dan are making. I'm also
working on the Modern Land Battles rulebook. Bouncing between the two games and
remembering which component goes where can be difficult especially after a long
night. On other news, I'm almost finished with the Rise of the Zombies
tutorial, and am about 75% through the Warfighter tutorial. I'll post these
online as soon as they're done, and they're used mostly for people to learn and
relearn the game. They tell you everything you need to know about playing them

you live, you may get your order in as soon as 2-3 weeks. I've been watching
Kevin play Tiger Leader making little changes and reprinting cards as the edits
obscure the card text. I updated the entire action deck for Modern Land Battles
as the deck was lopsided towards defense, and I want the game centered more on
aggressive tactics. I've also been discussing DVG's next big step after Tiger Leader
and Modern Land Battles, and it will be the biggest jump we've made as a
company yet. The game is heavily centered on plastic miniatures, and we're
ordering 3D models and 2D artwork now.</div>

<br />
- Drop the 4 pre-season games. Why risk player injuries during pointless games?<br />
<br />
- Expand the season to 18 games. Vendetta is a fun family card I’ve designed where each player gets to be a New York mob boss fighting to build his mob empire and control the city.<br />
<br />
Do you like the Godfather or Soprano’s? If you do, I think you’ll really like this game.<br />
<br />
Here’s where I need your help. To make this game a reality, we need money to pay the printer before they start printing.<br />
<br />
To make the money-part fun for everyone, we’re offering some great incentives through a promotional web site called <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/80793621/vendetta-the-gangster-card-game">Kickstarter</a>.<br />
<br />
If you contribute to the project, you can get your name in the game, on a card, or even have a mob boss named for you.<br />
<br />
We have a great video on <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/80793621/vendetta-the-gangster-card-game">Kickstarter</a> explaining all the game and money details.<br />
<br />
Have a look, contribute if you’re interested, and please pass the information along to your friends!Dan Verssenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04534313506940156036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4114922051178211136.post-48654864093469326042010-08-18T15:47:00.000-07:002010-08-18T15:47:10.674-07:00Favre!With Brett's announcement, the Vikings just went from an 8 and 8 season to a shot at the Super Bowl!<br />

</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">The Air Leader series of games started back in 1991 with the release of Hornet Leader. The solitaire game placed the player in the role of a squadron commander for the US Navy’s FA-18 Hornet strike fighters.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">Whenever I’d tell people about the game, they’d always ask, “Is it a card game, board game…?” and I’d respond with, “Well…”</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">Hornet was a new kind of game. It used cards to hold data, but you didn’t hold the cards in your hand. Nor did you play them. The cards were used to generate missions and to represent your pilots and aircraft. The game did use a board and counters, but most of the counters were used to represent weapons and pilot status. Also, because each pilot had his own unique set of skills, and could gain experience and improve, the game also had a mild role-playing element. All in all, it was a difficult game to describe. Twenty years later, I still have a hard time describing Hornet, but luckily, we now have google for those who are new to the series.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">I designed Thunderbolt+Apache Leader a year or two later. The core concept was the same: solitaire, command a squadron, manage your pilots, blow-up the bad guys, but the details of how the two games worked were very different. For you TAL fans out there, yes, we plan of revising and releasing TAL. Hopefully in 2011.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">Skip ahead 10 years. I dusted off Hornet to re-release it in Vassal/PDF format, and found the old game somewhat lacking. While a solid design, if had not aged well. It was too complex, had too many procedures, and had far too many die roll modifiers.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">For any one taking notes on game design philosophy, die roll modifiers always seem like a great idea during the design stage, but they are the best way to kill the feel and flavor of a game. Here’s why. People use the emotional side of their brains to feel and become connected to a story, which is what a game is. When you force their brain to do math, they switch the logical side of their brain, and you suppress their feelings and emotions. This instantly turns an exciting mission deep into enemy territory into a mathematical exercise with little pictures of airplanes.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">Anyway… I revised Hornet Leader and named it Hornet Leader II. I know, very creative. I streamlined the mechanics and simplified the game while keeping all the core concepts of flying over other people’s countries and blowing stuff up. Over the course of 3 expansions, I added new types of aircraft like F-14 Tomcats, A-6 Intruders, AV-8B Harriers, etc. Overall, I was very happy with the design.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">Flash forward to 2010 and the release of Phantom Leader. Phantom built on the HLII design and took it a step farther. The game added some very cool new options for spending Special Option points that changed mission planning on a high level. Phantom also incorporated the Politics track to capture the politically imposed limitations of the Vietnam Air War.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">This brings us to Hornet Leader – Carrier Air Operations, our newest game in the Air Leader series.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">The original plan for HL-CAO was simple: gather the components from HLII and its 3 expansions, replace all the art, and release it as a printed game with high quality components. Then I started looking at the games. They were good, but not perfect. As time passed, I revised a rule here, and added a new one there, until we’re at where we are now, with a highly updated game.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">Here’s a list of the major changes to date. During the next few weeks, I’ll detail each of them (and probably add to the list):</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">Situational Awareness</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">Target Traits</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">Campaign Skill Levels</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">Bad Event XP</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">New Special Option point Scale</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">Stand-Off Range Band</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">F-35 Stealth</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">Reworked Ordnance Counters</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;"><strong>Situational Awareness</strong></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">This is a new pilot skill. The skill range is 0 to 3, with most pilots having a 0 most of the time. As with most skills, a pilot gets more of them as he progresses in experience. A pilot gets 1 Situational Awareness counter each mission for each point of skill he has.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">A Fast pilot may discard a counter during a Slow step to attack. A Slow pilot may discard a counter during a Fast step to attack. This attack is in addition to the pilot’s normal attack that turn.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">At the start of each mission, you get to select the most experienced pilot flying the mission to be your Flight Leader. The Flight Leader can use each of his counters as normal, or expend them for other pilots during the mission as you see fit.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">The E-2C Hawkeye support aircraft have a built-in ability. They can always expend their counters for other pilots.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">This new skill adds a great deal of flexibility and decision-making to pilot selection, arming, and Over Target tactics.</span></div>Dan Verssenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04534313506940156036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4114922051178211136.post-52916332969799776752010-04-16T05:52:00.000-07:002010-04-16T05:52:20.365-07:00Guns Blazing!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijTruczYGML-7GBkg0rxHkYjTIhgYy6z4dcDMjYu1nIjBeEy6F1kVvMZVjDKt1c4yi3RwwFhRTVLZb9MV2dpWgt0VIQzk2sQ7macKtBpdzL-gOTWTCxMVKAtUk8Sz7271mPBVg_GqWi5k/s1600/difgbboxMOCK500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijTruczYGML-7GBkg0rxHkYjTIhgYy6z4dcDMjYu1nIjBeEy6F1kVvMZVjDKt1c4yi3RwwFhRTVLZb9MV2dpWgt0VIQzk2sQ7macKtBpdzL-gOTWTCxMVKAtUk8Sz7271mPBVg_GqWi5k/s320/difgbboxMOCK500.jpg" wt="true" /></a></div><br />

Guns Blazing is a stand-alone WWII dogfighting game and the second game in our Down In Flames series of card games. The great thing about the system is you can play an exciting dogfight in 15 minutes.<br />
<br />
Thanks Wan for the great Guns Blazing box cover!<br />

Game Over!For those of you who don’t know how NFL overtime rules work, consider yourselves lucky. Briefly: If the game ends in a tie, they flip a coin, and the winner gets the ball. The first team to score wins.<br />
<br />
This means that a team may never get possession of the ball in overtime before they lose. Kind of like a baseball game going to extra innings. If the visiting team scores a run, they win. The home team gets an at bat.<br />
<br />
As a game designer and a Vikings fan, I have a suggestion for the NFL…<br />
<br />
New Overtime Rule:<br />
<br />
They play until Team “A” scores. Team “B” then receives a kick-off. During its possession, Team “B” will either:<br />
<br />
A) Not score points, or score fewer points than Team “A” = Team “B” loses<br />
<br />
B) Score points equal to Team “A” = Reset, do it again<br />
<br />
C) Score more points than Team “A” = Team “B” winsDan Verssenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04534313506940156036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4114922051178211136.post-17252801756163425902010-01-19T22:01:00.000-08:002010-01-20T09:58:25.838-08:00Vikings Fan<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7yDYtZ6vlTYrz4n53VWIwfyz1_DfTnAbEinY6WY5Ye0_aIYobKoh7nv9eWFgVKJ1RMBorKvJpJUvfQ1XM1fEaDImvYKUkrj5j0p7305fLOatqXzmASpsTkXeeYJqEnMO1qiUKZwi1VnI/s1600-h/RonYary.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" mt="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7yDYtZ6vlTYrz4n53VWIwfyz1_DfTnAbEinY6WY5Ye0_aIYobKoh7nv9eWFgVKJ1RMBorKvJpJUvfQ1XM1fEaDImvYKUkrj5j0p7305fLOatqXzmASpsTkXeeYJqEnMO1qiUKZwi1VnI/s320/RonYary.jpg" /></a><br />

It’s a good year to be a Minnesota Vikings’ fan. Most years you figure on the team going 8 and 8, or maybe lucking into a play-off spot. Like I said, it’s been a good year.<br />
<br />
I’ve been a fan since I was about 5 years old. My family lived in Bellflower, CA where my dad owned an Arco gas station. The company was called Richfield back then. One of his customer’s was the Yary family. Their son, Ron, played football at Bellflower High School. He later played as on offensive lineman at USC. He was the first draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 1968.<br />
<br />
Around 1974 we moved away from the area and lost touch with the Yarys, but I continued being a Vikings fan.<br />
<br />
Tonight, in a burst of Viking’s support, I decided to shave two Viking horns into my hair. I copied the helmet art from online graphics, printed a few to get the sizing right for my head, then cut-out a template. Holly then traced the templates on my head with a magic marker, and then cranked-up the electric hair trimmer. An hour later, I was the proud owner of Viking horns!<br />
<br />
Kevin and Kira also helped with the shaving. Just the other day, Kira was saying how we should have more family time. So it worked out well for everyone. Actually, both kids are mortified and have insisted only Holly pick them up from school until the hair grows back. Riiiight!<br />
<br />
Here's hoping the Vikings defeat the Saints, then go on to win the final battle - Super Bowl XLIV - RAGNAROK!<br />
